LGBTIQ+
We all struggle with identity and expression at some point in our lives although, people who identify as LGBTIQ+ are living lives outside of the "norm" - this can make navigating certain aspects of life difficult. Lifespan development for people living LGBTIQ+ may involve questioning one's sexuality, coming out or, "inviting in", living "double lives" within community cultural or traditional attitudes. Being considered "other", discrimination and harrassment are some of the experiences people living as LGBTIQ+ may face. In light of the adversity individuals may face, people may use certain coping mechanisms to deal with these, whether healthy or unhealthy such as sex or drug and alcohol use. This may lead to poor mental health and diminish your quality of life and wellbeing.
I am experienced in helping young people and adults with exploring their gender identity, sexuality and expression. My practice is committed to diversity and inclusivity. And the philosophy that many of the problems for LGBTIQ+ people sit with the dominant attitudes and behaviours of society that are oppressive.
I draw on a range of therapies for trauma therapy including:
- Anti-Oppressive Practice
- Decolonised Approaches
- Eye Movement and Desensitisation Reprocessing
- Internal Family Systems
- Narrative Therapy
- Somatic Therapy
- Trauma Psychoeducation
